May 19, 2005This morning, I packed my backpack full of old textbooks and walked to campus. When I got to the Student Center, three copies of my thesis were waiting for me at CopyTech. In my hands, I finally had three beautiful individually rubberbanded stacks of archival paper thanks to one Jack Holloway. After two weeks of many printing attempts gone horribly wrong, the final copies were in my hands. As I crossed Mass Ave towards the great big columned building, I felt for the first time that I was really finishing up with this place. Since the DanceTroupe shows ended, I haven't been doing much except hanging out with people. I feel like I'm independently wealthy. No school, no work, just waking up each morning to complete freedom. (I will have to pack at some point... but not yet :) ). I walked past the "Ca$h for Books" people in Lobby 10, past the commencement tickets room in building 6 -- straight through to the writing department in building 14N. I unloaded my stacks, signed the front page, and I was academically done with MIT. I still need to get a binder for the copy that will stay in the writing department, but that will be so easy compared to everything else. Thank the dear sweet Lord. Don't get me wrong, it's been fun, but it feels so good to be done :D On my way back, I scooped up commencement tickets and sold old books for a total of $171.75. I can't believe they are still using my calculus book from freshman year: Calculus with Analytic Geometry by Simmons. Amazing! I did decide to keep my text from a dance history class because they could only offer me $2.50 for it. I was already toying with the idea of keeping it, and that measley offer sealed the deal. Tonight it's Bartley's in Harvard with the dancetroupe crew, plus a showing of the spring concert in some room on campus. I love begin done :D |
