October 4, 2005Turns out my high school was not the only one plagued by "freaking":The style involves grinding and gyrating against a dance partner or several people at once in what one school administrator said looks like having sex with clothes on... After staff turned on the lights because some students were dancing inappropriately at a recent dance... That sounds familiar: Homecoming senior year. A letter was sent last week to Central Valley students and parents, explaining the decision to discontinue the mixers because of fighting, vandalism, thefts, alcohol use and dress code violations, but mainly the inappropriate dancing... Familiar as well: spring of junior year? Prior to a Sadie Hawkins dance scheduled for Oct. 29, teachers will offer dance classes to students who want to learn another way to dance. Good idea. Except that high school kids will never go for it. Salsa is fantastic, but not at 16, and (correct me if I'm wrong) especially if you're a guy. |
