the big 250
January 27, 2006
Mozart was born 250 years ago.
The upside of this is that both classical radio stations are on a Mozart binge. Not every piece is Mozart's, but every other one is. If the stations wanted to, they could probably fill all day with his music -- there is 24 hours worth of Mozart in existence, no? I know it depends on the speed at which you play, but roughly speaking. How great would it be to compare how many hours of music each of the great composers wrote?
The downside is hearing all about how Mozart composed 80% of his work while still a zygote in Anna Maria's womb. How many symphonies did you write by the time you were thirteen?
Exactly.
Around the time Mozart was 6, Papa Mozart set his sight on big prize: Vienna. Upon their arrival, his father wrote to a friend:
We are already being talked of everywhere. Everyone is amazed... and everyone whom I have heard says that his genius is incomprehensible...
