The Cavitron on Cloudleap Court.
October 8, 2004
The highlight of my first full day at home: a visit to myfriendthedentists. The dentists are a father and son, an intelligent pair who take time to explain exactly what's going on with your teeth and how to fix it. It appears I have some massive decalcification goin on and might have to be root canaled soon. I'm surprised by the rapid decay in my teeth over the last 6months, since I rarely consume forbidden items like soda, and when I do eat sweets, I try to brush my teeth immediately afterwards. I asked the Son dentist if growing up in Ukraine could have affected my teeth, and the Father appeared with an answer (yes) and a chart. I turns out that by the time you're 5 years old, your permanent teeth have already formed. Because there is no fluorine in Ukraine's water, my teeth are not well protected.
Ukraine may not have fluorine, but it has a PORK FAT FESTIVAL which, if not healthier, is not even arguably but decidedly cooler, haha. Back in the day, my parents used to ready the fat by frying and salting -- it was a true delicacy. Mmmm...
Tonight we watch the debates. Tomorrow Slav murders the SATs, and we have dinner with my ballet teacher's family. On Sunday we celebrate Slav's bday.
It was unbelievably warm here yesterday, and I hope it continues through my stay. The view out my window right now is the cul-de-sac littered with dry leaves. (Our trees always shed faster than those in other neighborhoods.) The live leaves are a mix of reds and greens and yellows. It smells like someone is firing up a grill. I love being home.
