December 17, 2003To choreograph:-No Diggity by Black Street: It's got to be done. I had hoped it would be this semester by Rasika&Judi in their hiphop piece, but they didn't use it in the end. Honestly, I'd rather dance in a piece choreographed by someone else to this song (I don't feel quite qualified for choreographing old school hiphop haha), but if it comes down to it (which it will, next year), I'll do it. -We Know Something by DJ Format & J5: Another high quality hiphop which would be tons of fun if I could find massive cartoon-like animal outfits for costumes haha. -Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood by Santa Esmeralda, Track 10 off the Kill Bill Soundtrack: I had been thinking about choreographing a step piece for next semester and mentioned the idea to Rodin. After seeing Kill Bill, he suggested I do a step piece to this song. The idea took me totally by surprise, but right around 3mins30secs it gets particularly sweet for step. With some folk-like flourish thrown in, could be good. Again there's the feeling of being underqualified to choreograph in a style I'm not experienced in, but hey, "challenge." Also, "more work." haha. -Ballet de Suburbia, Suite (Extended) from Edward Scissorhands Soundtrack: A dance of many characters and colors. -Catch Me If You Can, Track 1 from Catch Me If You Can Soundtrack Weird modern. Just translating music into motion a la Mark Morris. -the Scorpion theme from Mortal Kombat Soundtrack: -Iced Inc., Track 13 on Die Another Day Soundtrack: Both fast jazz/hip/martial style. Immediate projects: -sbtechno: Ahh StrongBad's techno creation :D Hopefully I'll get a group that will ham their asses up, and we can make a funny, easy, short piece. -Prelude in C Minor by Rachmaninoff: Entire piece will be done as if there is a mirror down the center of the stage, with a dancer on either side. Plan on having some crossing over the divide (holy moly!). Modern/lyrical style with sharp poses. Mood: tragic to the point of comic. ha. -Old Time Religion by the Original Five Blind Boys of Alabama (who I saw in concert this semester :D) For those of you who came to this semester's DanceTroupe concert, something like an Immersion Part II. Immersion is a dance choreographed by Amanda Gruhl set to Alison Kraus' Down to the River to Pray, performed in all white. Part II would be more upbeat, maybe just a collection of dancers all doing different moves and eventually colliding into a final formation. Next semester, I want to take classes at Green Street Studios, a hope hopefully funded in part by my parents as a gift for one of the multiple holidays coming up. For hiphop, I'll head to the Brookline Community Center for the Arts. Excitement!! :D Cause I'm just a soul whose intentions are good Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood Baby, sometimes I'm so carefree With a joy that's hard to hide And sometimes it seems that, all I have to do is worry And then you're bound to see my other side Cause I'm just a soul whose intentions are good Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood |
