May 21, 2004Tonight I hit up the Long Reach High School Culture Show to show some support for Slav. Highlights included a fashion show in which Slav donned the traditional Ukrainian style, a solo martial arts routine, an Indian dance, and a fortune cookie I devoured at intermission. I got a couple decent photos that I'll post soon. But only a couple. ha.On the way home, I was listening to my favorite non-classical station, 92Q. The DJs were announcing the results of a competition between two MCs. The challenger who lost from the previous competition went up against the winner again. The challenger slated for tonight did not show up. Apparently, "He was incarcerated on his way up here." This is why I love being home. For those who don't know, I've decided to stay at home this summer. It all started with two bouts of tonsillitis, a little bit of anemia, and the possibility of having mono. It continued with an email from my summer employer that told me I didn't really have a job anymore. It ended with a realization that if I went to Boston, I wouldn't do the three things I most wanted this summer: 1. thesis 2. read books 3. apply to grad schools So here I am and I LOVE IT. For the first time since I left home, I'm really enjoying being here. I'm comfortable at home again, comfortable with my parents. It's really nice to be getting this sense of peace again. Here's to a summer of home cookin, good books, and lots of writing. And MTV and Slav and my friends from back in the day :D |
