::MUSCLES:: & ::MUSIC::
June 7, 2005
Today, I got reacquainted with my muscles. I was dragging ass and finally got to the gym around 7, and it was awesome. I am excited about going tomorrow and the next day and the day after that. After about a month of no dancing and eating out, my body is so happy.
On the musical front, I was ready to move a little away from the hiphop/rap... Not ready to leave it behind, but finally really "willing" to explore much different music... And then Slav made me listen to a lot of awesome rap/hiphop from my high school days on the way back from Boston. Now that I drive everywhere, I'm always listening to the radio, so it's 92Q, 93.9, and 95.5, all up in the hiphop. I heard a really funny song on the radio by Akon called "Mr. Lonely." The chorus goes like so:
I'm so lonely (so lonely), I'm Mr. Lonely (Mr. Lonely) I have nobody (I have nobody) To call my own (to call my own) girl
Akon sings the words in parentheses, and a high-pitched unnatural chipmunk-like voice sings the rest. It sounds like he stole a 50's love song and sped it up. Turns out, he was inspired by Bobby Vinton's song "Mr. Lonely." Ok so he wasn't just "inspired"... he also took the chorus haha. It works surprisingly well, Akon's r&b crooner voice and Vinton's sped up cheezy 50's ballad. The combo is quite funny.
Another song I heard today: Vivian Green's Gotta Go Gotta Leave. They lyrics are alright, the video is pretty mild, but what I really like about the song is her timing of the words to the music. She's got an Alicia Keys-ish voice, but sometimes she punctuates words as if she's singing poetry a la Jill Scott.
I will try so hard to at least be willing to listen to different music. haha.
