March 31, 2005OH MY GOD yall will not BELIEVE this shit. Friday April 22 I will be dancing beside Fabolous and Lloyd Banks!!!Here's the deal. At the beginning of this semester, a bunch of kids from DanceTroupe got together to form Ridonkulous, a dance group that would perform at events at MIT and in Boston besides the usual DanceTroupe concert. We were looking for opportunities to perform when we heard that Fabolous and Lloyd Banks, two of the most popular rap artists right now, would be performing at MIT's Spring Weekend. Every year, MIT has a Spring Weekend full of fun events. Check out the schedule for this year. One of the members of Ridonkulous emailed the Spring Weekend Committee on a whim to ask if we (as a hip hop group) could perform with Fabolous and LLoyd Banks. They told us we could audition at 4:30pm on Wednesday March 30 (yesterday). I flew in from London at 4pm on Tuesday and got to our 7pm rehearsal. We worked our asses off for a couple hours, putting together formations and polishing our moves. We met up again at 3:30 yesterday for final touches. A little bit of scrambling to get things right, a couple small changes, and we were on. We auditioned in one of the worst dance spaces known to man: on the third floor of the student center, in the hallway that leads to the private dining rooms. In a hallway, with two computers, a trash can, and a bunch of couches/chairs. We danced, they said thanks, and we had no idea what they thought until we got an email with the subject: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Oh yes my friend, oh yes. In a couple weeks, a couple MIT kids will be sharing the stage with two big name rappers. Alright so I won't actually be on stage "with" the two rappers. But word has it that we'll probably take the stage in between their acts. This is huge. I assumed we would be an opening act that would go on with 10 people in the audience. I am so excited.
